BIO 485 Developmental Biology

Introduction to developmental biology. Using concepts from cell and molecular biology, this course surveys the major concepts and mechanisms of development leading from a fertilized egg to a fully differentiated, multicellular organism based on three primary tissue layers. Key concepts include pattern formation, cell commitment, generation of anatomical axes, organogenesis, stem cells and progenitor cells, regeneration, and human diseases of development and aging. The course incorporates lectures, recitations/discussions, reading of the primary literature, and student presentations.
