Introduction to advanced theories and analytical solutions for fluid flow in porous media, and the applications to subsurface energy extraction and contaminant transport in groundwater aquifers; Derivation of the mass balance equation and Navier-Stokes equations; compressible and incompressible flows; analytical solution of the pressure diffusivity equation in porous media; Fourier analysis; linear homogeneous partial differential equations; method of separation of variables; boundary and initial value problems; homogeneous and non-homogeneous boundary conditions; and global challenges associated with energy and water.
