MA 398 Introduction to Mathematical Research

This course prepares students with essential skills for successful undergraduate-level research projects in mathematics. Important processes and resources for mathematical research are introduced, with an emphasis on assisting students in identifying and exploring fields of interest in which they may later conduct research. Students learn to access and effectively navigate published literature as well as less formal communications. Dynamics of mathematical ideas, questions, conjectures, proofs, theorems, and applications are presented with various examples, and the course instructor may use their areas of expertise to give such examples further continuity and context. Research practices are applied to pre-defined group projects, where scholarly collaboration culminates in a final report. This is a seven (7) week course.
