Dual Master of Science- MBA in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

The dual Master of Science-MBA in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing degree is designed for students that seek to have a deep technical knowledge in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing as well as strong management skills and qualifications. A technical Master of Science degree coupled with an MBA provides a great mixture of education and creates a well-rounded employee. This joint degree will give engineering and science students strong business management skills to complement their engineering/science degree, accelerating their growth into management positions and opening up a more diverse selection of career choices. The students will earn two separate master’s degrees in succession in this dual degree program.

Program Objectives

The program prepares students to (3 to 6 years after graduation):

  • become managers/leaders in pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device firms, or consulting firms servicing those industries.

  • establish new ventures and startups in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device industry, or consulting firms servicing those industries with expertise in engineering/science and the skills to start a business.

 

Program Outcomes

 

By the time of graduation, students will:

  • acquire in depth technical and managerial skills to be able to be effective leaders in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device industry

  • develop basic skills of management as well as gain knowledge of analytical methods for approaching organization problems.

  • be able to integrate managerial and technical aspects of life sciences manufacturing and support functions

  • demonstrate fluency in the current body of knowledge in life sciences manufacturing and apply that knowledge toward optimal decision-making process in their respective field of practice.

  • exhibit proper use of integrative thinking in order to holistically analyze the relationship between human activity and the natural, social, and economic environments.

  • acquire both qualitative and quantitative analytical skills and apply those skills in solving problems in the context of their professional interests and expertise.

  • possess high-quality written and oral communication skills to efficiently communicate complex issues to a varied audience.

  • demonstrate a high level of professionalism and proper understanding of ethical boundaries in all undertakings.

Degree Requirements

The program is a 57-credit degree program. Students are required to complete:

  • 7 courses (21 credits) from the M.S. degree program, including:

    • 5 core courses (15 credits) 

    • 2 elective courses (6 credits)

  • an additional 12 courses (36 credits) from the MBA degree program (all of them required; no electives)
