Accelerated Seven-Year Program in Medicine/Accelerated Chemical Biology Program

The Combined B.S.-M.D. Program is an opportunity to earn the B.S. degree in Chemical Biology at Stevens and the M.D. degree at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in a total of seven years. If you are a high school senior who has demonstrated academic excellence, in the top 10% of your class, with a combined SAT score of at least 1400 and a promise for a career in medicine, you can be considered for the B.S.-M.D. program.

The Accelerated Pre-Medicine Program is a Regular Decision application. Students must apply Regular Decision but have an earlier deadline of November 1st to submit their application with all required materials.

 

Application Requirements:

  • Successfully complete the following high school course work:
    • Four years of English.
    • Four years of mathematics (one of algebra, one of geometry, one of pre-calculus, one of calculus).
    • Three years of science (one of biology, one of chemistry, one of physics).
    • AP Biology and AP Chemistry, if possible, are recommended.
  • Rank in the top 10% of your high school class.
  • Achieve a combined SAT score of 1400 (critical reading and math) or ACT composite of 32 in one sitting.  Standardized tests must be completed prior to the November 1 application deadline and results must be submitted to Stevens via the testing agency to be considered in our review.  
  • Submit your Stevens application essay on the subject of why you want to be a doctor.
  • Resume including outside experience such as shadowing, volunteering, or research in the medical field.
  • NJMS requires US citizenship or permanent residency  for matriculation into its program.  International students who are in the process of obtaining citizenship or permanent residency may be eligible for consideration.

Note: Admission to this program is highly competitive. Following review of your application, Stevens will contact applicants to schedule an interview. Not all applicants are guaranteed an interview with Stevens.  After the interview with Stevens, if an applicant is selected for the next application phase, you will be required to interview with the medical school.

If accepted to this program, you must complete three years in the Accelerated Chemical Biology program with a GPA of at least 3.50, grades in all of the premed courses at least B (not B-) or above, and you obtain acceptable scores on the MCAT exam. Stevens awards the B.S. degree upon successful completion of the first year of medical studies.

Note:  If you are admitted to the accelerated chemical biology program, you'll take the same courses as the science majors in the first year, adding other program requirements during the following semesters at Stevens, and then enter the medical school at the beginning of your fourth year. Transfer credit for courses taken in the first year of study at the medical school are used to complete the requirements of the Bachelor of Science degree.
