HMU 304 Music Theory IV

The music theory sequence concludes with an exploration of post-tonal harmony as found in a diverse range of music, including but not limited to popular and European classical styles. Students will also focus on the role of timbre in the analysis, composition, and performance of a wide variety of music. They will develop their abilities to listen to and write about music through prose analysis, drawing from their subjective experience to communicate their understanding. Concepts will be reinforced through performance, composition, and critical listening exercises.
