HMU 102 History of European Music II

This course provides a review of the European history of music starting from the late Baroque period to the end of Twentieth Century. The course provides an understanding of the historical development of music during each period including the works of major composers, structural and stylistic elements of their music within the context of cultural developments and humanities. The focus on listening and analysis will enable students to describe the characteristics of music and make critical assessments of the compositional styles and techniques in relation with contemporary genre. Through class discussions, written assignments and exams, students will engage critically with diverse ideas about the relationship of music and culture to develop critical thinking and successful communication skills.
