ME 400 Research Methods in Mechanical Engineering

This course establishes a foundation on research planning, project management, research methods, and data analysis with a particular focus on mechanical engineering applications. Students will be prepared to conduct independent research as part of a special projects class, a thesis, or voluntary research work. Topics that will be covered: Introduction to engineering research; how to define a research project; how to establish state of the art knowledge; conduct a literature search and to cite literature in a report; data analysis; computational methods and coding, high performance computing; data visualization; how to write a discussion of a paper; statistical analysis.
