HAR 385 Contemporary Art
Moving from key moments in mid-century visual art, this course provides a critical survey of painting, sculpture, performance, and new media in global artistic production to the present. We will discuss the functions of art and the role of the artist in contemporary culture, and specific lecture topics may include the impact of globalization on studio practices and institutional collecting, "postmodern" aesthetics, collective reception and the public sphere, and the impact of trans- and inter-media on traditional genres of art.
