HAR 386 Feminist Theory and Artistic Practice

This course considers a range of texts central to feminist theory alongside and in dialogue with projects and artistic interventions created by women. Moving from the 19th century, the Academy and Impressionism, and early activism, we will discuss issues of race and class in cultural production and reception, second- and third-wave feminist movements, new media, gender identification, and the presence of feminist discourses in contemporary institutions. Previous coursework in art humanities is recommended but not required.
