HLI 225 Introduction to Screenwriting

Introduction to Screenwriting is a beginner’s workshop in the creation of fiction for film, television and the web. Students will explore issues such as dramatic structure, character development, plotting, theme, crafting effective dialogue and screen direction, as well as proper screenplay format. Students will examine how scripts are a literary form, but primarily exist as a tool to assist in the creation of a filmed work involving a larger set of artists and professionals. Both creative and industry processes will be discussed. This course will require creative writing output from the student, as well as a willingness to participate in peer review of their work, and the work of fellow students.
