SUCCESS Core Curriculum
As called for in the university’s strategic plan, Stevens Institute of Technology has developed a signature core curriculum. Known as SUCCESS (Stevens Undergraduate Core Curriculum: Essential Skills for Success), this curriculum prepares students with essential skills they will need to succeed in the 21st century and the digital economy. It is a requirement for undergraduates in all schools and majors starting in fall 2024. This core curriculum transforms undergraduate education and positions Stevens as a national leader in higher education.
The essential skills covered by SUCCESS include communication; leadership; ethics; diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI); global citizenship; computing; entrepreneurship; and technological and informational literacy. Required courses to help students learn these skills include a new First-Year Experience course and a series of Frontiers of Technology courses. The First-Year Experience course introduces students to Stevens and its resources, life and study skills for success, principles of modern-day leadership and ethical values. The Frontiers of Technology courses expose students to the most important technologies (AI and machine learning, data science and analytics, biotechnology, sustainability and quantum technology), their applications and their potential impacts on society.
The New Core includes:
- The First-Year Experience course (FYE): PRV 101*
- Courses on writing, communication, leadership and ethics (HASS 103 and HASS 105)
- A computing course
- An entrepreneurship course
- Frontiers of Technology courses (students can choose three of these five topics based on their major and personal interests):
